samurai battle mask
For samurai, masks served as a face protection while also securing the hemlet to the head. This mask is half-length known as mempo, only covering the nose and the face below the eyes. The object is leather and lacquered on the inside in red. The neck adornment is woven in silk. This Edo Era mask includes a copy of a statement of appraisal from Mr. Taira Sawada of Japan.
