Call Your Mother

For Call Your Mother, we are once again doing something for the first time, we are featuring a Sauvignon Blanc. It’s crisp and seamless, refreshing, and has many layers of flavors to it.

While we chose to label this California, it comes from Napa Valley, just above St. Helena, and just below Howell Mountain. Like many of our favorite luxury-tier Sauvignon Blancs, there’s a smidge of a Sauvignon Blanc clone called “Musque”, which is really fleshy and aromatic. Too much Musque and the wine can get cloying and uninteresting, but just the right amount sets off the wine and adds cascading levels of flavors and texture.  The wine was fermented and aged in neutral oak barrels, giving it generous volume without oaky aromas or flavors, and without heaviness.

serving
the wine

Call Your Mother has both crisp and refreshing elements as well as some other richer textural notes that can be enhanced by adjusting the temperature. If you are having seafood or a salad, you can serve the wine a few degrees colder (throw it in the freezer for 5-10 minutes - just don’t forget it!), and the wine will show you its zesty side. For salmon, chicken, or as an aperitif with cheese, let it sit on the counter for a few minutes so the serving temperature is a little warmer and it will become more full bodied and flavorful.

creating call
your mother

This drop is inspired by a short stint our founder Dave experienced at a striking Frank Lloyd Wright designed building, that also happens to be the Marin County jail. The subsequent phone call he made to his mother; coincidentally on mother’s day - outside of the clink is the impetus behind this drop.

exploring
this drops
theme

For our second white wine and our first Sauvignon Blanc, we wanted to keep this drop’s theme as bright and approachable as the wine. For Drop 007, our magazine explores all things communication and matriarchal. From the mitochondrial eve to Alexander Bell’s creation of the telephone, readers will dive into esoteric topics that will feel as familiar as a phone call to mom.

Our art object for drop 007, is a simple hotel style note pad for all your list making needs. As we contemplated our theme “Call Your Mother”, we grew nostalgic for a time when we lived under our own mother’s roofs, before smartphones replaced impromptu notes jotted down on pen and paper. A handwritten list can range from the mundane aspects of daily life to grandiose aspirations for self improvement. An intimate look into our own Maslow's Hierarchy of Needs.
